The last time we saw a local girl group taking the music industry by storm was probably in the '90s (remember pop group Elite?). Now fast forward more than a decade down the line, we're seeing a new brand of girl power emerge: they sing, dance and rap—De Fam is here to take over.
The girls from De Fam—Azira Shafinaz, Sophia Liyana and Cik Manggis—met each other when they joined the KL-based hip-hop dance crew Funky Fresh family, and started out their career in the entertainment industry by dancing for other artistes—what a long way they've come since then. Since its release in May last year, their debut single '#Supergirls' received massive airplay and now has close to 4 million views on YouTube. The talented lasses may not have an album out yet (we hear an EP is in the works for next year so stay tuned!), but they have definitely proven themselves as one of the fastest growing acts in Malaysia—we believe the sky is the limit for these girls.
