Jason Mraz to make his Broadway debut this November

Here’s a good reason to plan a holiday to New York City this holiday season: Broadway will be getting a hearty serving of Jason Mraz come 3 November when the singer-songwriter joins the cast of Waitress. He’ll be playing Dr. Jim Pomatter, the gynecologist who offers local diner waitress Jenna Hunterson (currently played by Betsy Wolfe) an escape from her unhappy marriage.

Mraz and the music from Waitress aren’t exactly complete strangers. He featured on Sara Bareilles’ (who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical) 2015 album What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress, appearing on two tracks: ‘Bad Idea’ and ‘You Matter to Me’ – both duets are performed by Dr. Pomatter and Jenna in the musical.

“Broadway by itself is a big deal for any performer. I’ve been aware of it my whole life,” Mraz told Broadway.com. “Add Sara Bareilles’ beautiful pop-musical compositions and I’m simply blessed.”

Mraz is set to play a 10-week limited run only in the musical, so act fast if you’d like to catch Waitress and his Broadway debut!
