Meet the cool girls who nailed our top hair fantasies

Less thinking, more doing is the way to go when it comes to these trends. Whether you’re looking to turn heads this party season or planning a 2016 hair debut, these daredevil looks are designed to nudge you out of the shadows and into the spotlight.

Ruby Rose’s Andro-Braids

Everyone’s favourite Orange Is The New Black inmate is having a major style moment. The gender-fluid beauty gives her androgynous ‘do a pretty twist with braids on each side of her natural hair parting, keeping the sides sleek – the perfect choice for shorter ‘dos and works especially well to ‘dress up’ the growing out phase of your hair.

Alexa Chung’s Grown-up Pigtails

Alexa Chung proves there is little she can’t pull off – including a spin on the classic pigtail. More cool than cutesy, she takes the playground favourite into the world by pairing it with a soft centre-part, a flick of her signature eyeliner and coral-pink lips to match. Well played, indeed.

Tavi Gevinson’s Mod Pixie

Rookie Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief debuts a new pixie cut inspired by the original Scream queen, Jamie Lee Curtis. But it’s Tavi Gevinson we’re talking about, so of course we’d expect little quirky details such as a bold layered fringe and an ash-blonde hue that’s more neoteric than nanna for her version of the look, which we more than approve.

Amandla Stenberg’s Crimped Metallics

The little Rue we’ve come to love from The Hunger Games is all grown up and taking fashion and beauty risks. Here, she confidently pulls off the combination we can only dream of; silver-grey colour, heavily crimped and a flash of roots that is all cool-not-cringe. Of course, with a smile like that you could get away with most things.

Kelly Osbourne’s Samurai Topknot

Trust one of fashion’s boldest talents to pull of a hair stunt like this. Known for her iconic purple ‘do and endless variations of styles and topknots, she juxtaposes a softer samurai-inspired version with cleanly-shaven sides and back. To top it off, she flashes the word Stories, tattooed to the left side of her head. When it comes to Kelly, you have to admire her style and courage, although not necessarily in that order.
