Awards season-chic: 15 coolest hairstyles from the shows so far

Whether you’re in love with the looks from the shows or hooked on the post-Golden Globes online debacle (we’re looking at you, J.Law) – was she or wasn’t she being mean during her interview? Guess what? It doesn’t matter because it’s Awards Season! Which means, that won’t be the last of the drama, nor will it be the last display of stunning looks, beautiful dresses and the most amazing hairstyles for months to come (cue the popcorn). Speaking of which, enjoy our roundup of hair inspo from the recent shows to kick off the season…

1. Laura Haddock’s Twist-knots and Barrettes

The actress debuted a sleek updo at the recent Critics’ Choice Awards, which scored bonus points when viewed from the back. A combination of half-up and half-down ponytails in one skillful knot, the look was expertly kept in place using two comb barrettes, without a bobby pin in sight.

2. Bryce Dallas Howard’s Origami-inspired Low Pony

Bryce amped up a simply low pony with a sleek origami-inspired fold, which not only adds interest to the simple do, but also works magic in hiding any hair ties from ruining a pretty picture – mission accomplished.

3. Shelley Hennig’s Short and Sleek Do

Cute as a button, Shelley has the short and chic formula down to an art. Here, she balances the edginess of a sleek do with feminine waves at the bottom. Like we say, down to a fine art.

4. Rooney Mara’s High-Low Ponytail Plait

Always one to surprise, Rooney dishes out the details in a plaited high ponytail, which is then combined with a low ponytail braid as a finishing touch.

5. Kate Bosworth’s Infinity Bun

The Queen of Coachella is no stranger to the red carpet. Her elegant updo is finished with a perfectly pint-sized bun that seems to go on forever…

6. Sarah Paulson’s Faux Pixie

All hail the short and mid-lengths, which were a hit at the shows! Extra points for Sarah’s way of hiding her ‘growing out’ phase by pinning it back to reveal slick sides and back.

7. Sarah Hay’s Ponytail of Braids

Talk about the braid-y bunch – Sarah pushes the envelope with a pony tail, braids and a fishtail for maximum impact, and pulls it off beautifully. Definitely an A for effort right there.

8. Kate Gorney’s Faux Side Undercut

You know it’s a good day when even the sleek and straights spice things up a notch in the name of Awards season! Credit goes to Kate for injecting a little edge into her incredibly feminine look and features with an ear cuff and edgy faux undercut effort to match.

9. Rachel McAdams’s Streaky Updo

Rachel switched things up by wearing her mid-length hair in an updo for the Golden Globes. Kudos to her for also pulling off streaks of blonde between her darker roots with such grace! What we do not envy is the amount of time it’d have taken her to undo the number of bobby pins in there, you go girl.

10. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Sleek Bun

Rosie, Rosie, Rosie. So stunning she may as well just rock up in a safe black number and wear her hair up as if she only decided to attend the awards an hour before and still look incredibly stunning. Oh wait, she did. Don’t get us started on that little drop-bun – perfection.

11. Portia Doubleday’s Grecian Goddess Do

We’ll wear fishtail braids as headbands any day if we could do them as well as Portia, or well, her stylist anyway. Extra points for a little shine and shimmer in her makeup to complete the look.

12. Paz Vega’s Short and Slick Do

The Spanish beauty swapped her naturally wavy pixie for a super sleek and slick do, which looks amazing. Perfect for the growing out stages if you are having thoughts about going for that trim.

13. Jennifer Lawrence’s Low Bun

Online debacle aside, J.Law made no mistakes on her red carpet appearance this year. She cut a stunning figure in a red Dior dress with a low bun that looks too pretty from the back. We’re loving the super-feminine touches – hello, delicate knots and little wisps of flyaways.

14. Maria Menounos’s Textured Low Pony

Also taking a page out of the Grecian Goddess’ handbook, Maria adds a playful touch to her look with a textured low pony-braided fringe combo, which worked a treat.

15. Heidi Klum’s Foldover Bun

One to always have a bit of fun, Heidi paired her fringe dress with effortless hair complete with playful wisps escaping her updo. It gets more interesting at the back – she moves away from the classic bun with a foldover instead.
