K-beauty secrets: Tips to use your cushion compact for that dewy look

It’s a booming industry that has spawned a new trend in which cushion cosmetics have become much loved by women from all walks of society. Thanks to the Korean R&D, cushion cosmetics have steadily change the makeup scene since 2008 when the Amorepacific group introduced an airtight, all-in-one compact that was inspired by the ink stamp. Amorepacific is the parent company of many well-known Korean beauty brands such as Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Mamonde, Innisfree and Etude House among others. Each of these brands carry its own range of cushion cosmetics to fit different skin types and needs.

Today, the cushion continues to be a big hit among women in their 20s who want natural-looking makeup while for ladies in their 40s and 50s, they like it for its good coverage benefits. In 2015 alone, one cushion was sold every second and to date, over 100 million units have been sold.

At a recent event held by Amorepacific group, we had the privilege to talk to Vivi Ahn, the Amorepacific’s Makeup Expert & Trend Leader. She shared with us tips and tricks to make the best out of your cushion.

Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion

“To achieve a brighter skin tone and get the semi-matte finishing, use the dabbing technique. Focus more on the areas that you’d like to highlight or “lift” such as around the eyes, nose and chin. The Sulwhasoo cushion formula contains magnolia extract and a Pearlescent Complex to bring out the skin’s translucent radiance.”

Laneige BB Cushion SPF50+/PA+++

“Laneige helps you to achieve a dewy look that is favoured by many Korean girls. With its 3D sponge, gently tap around the diamond zone (or T-zone) to create a soft matte and natural tint so that skin appears well protected. Finish off with a few puffs of no sebum powder to control shine and enhance your matte look.”

Mamonde Cover Powder Cushion SPF50+/PA+++

“This is perfect for those with uneven skin tone and to cover up blemishes. Mamonde contains peach flower water and hyaluronic acids to moisturise the skin and offer good coverage. Dab around problem areas like the chin, cheeks and forehead to conceal shine. For hard to reach places like the sides of the nose, fold the puff and dab for a flawless finish.”

Innisfree Longwear Cover Cushion

“Apply with the sweeping technique to create a smooth texture or you can also use the dabbing technique around the nose, chin, cheeks and forehead to achieve a lasting finish. For the Malaysian weather, I’d recommend using this with the Innisfree No Sebum Powder on your high-shine areas and achieve a matte look.”

Etude House Precious Mineral Cushion

“Start off with the Precious Mineral Any Cushion as your primer to correct your skin tone; it has a sheer coverage so perfect as a base. Then use the Precious Mineral Magic Any Cushion as a BB cream foundation. The pink range is for pale skin tone to achieve a more vivid finishing; the mint is for sensitive skin to create a more natural and brighter skin tone and the peach is suitable for dark skin tone to get clearer, brighter complexion.”
